Most of us try - in our own way - to live a green life. It means doing the right things like recycling, composting and taking public transportation. These are all very good but do we ever think about the environmental affect of decorating our homes? What if I were tell that you that most of the paper that we use, read or hang in our homes has chlorine in it? Chlorine doesn't sound so bad. It sounds like something added to our clothes when we wash them or to our pool to keep it clean. However, chlorine is actually a dioxin, the single most carcinogenic class of chemicals known to man.
When I started my business last spring after getting laid of my corporate job I decided I wanted to publish art. I have been in the business for 15 years and the art business is all I really like to do. So becoming a publisher was a no brainer and I had all the contacts so I got started right away. And - I try to live a green life. So I decided if I was going to publish art I was going to do it the healthiest way possible. This meant finding a printer who had the same philosophy as I do.
Shortly after I bought my domain name I found my printer in Massachusetts, Eco Visual. Through this printer I order my published prints on paper made from the pure recycled cotton remnants of t-shirt and blue jeans manufacturers. The inks that we use are water based carbon pigmented and free of all volatile organic compounds. Our products are so pure that I wouldn't hesitate to hang a print we've made over a baby's crib just seconds after it was printed. And better yet, the tubes used to ship the art to you are made from recycled materials. I am committed to our planet and through this product I can safely say that the air in your home will not be negatively affected by this art. Feel comforted that what you hang in your child's room will not hurt them. And what if you need wall décor for a nursing home project, senior residence or hospital? Would you want to hang art that is full of VOC's? Probably not - so for these projects it is best to consult with someone who prints and publishes art that is VOC free. This creates a healthier atmosphere and those with compromised pulmonary systems will not be hurt by it. There are many ways to keep the air in our environments clean and thinking about what we have on the wall is just part of that.
